Along with being Board certified in acupuncture, Dr. Tavakoli is also certified in four other specialties, including homeopathic medicine, Reiki, Chinese herbal medicine, and acupuncture detox. Some conditions respond best to a combination of acupuncture and tone or more of these additional healing choices.
The basis of Homeopathic Medicine is that the human body can heal itself and that the healing process can be enhanced by pairing “likes with likes.” In Greek, “homeo” means same or similar, and “pathic” means disease or suffering. In other words, if a substance causes a symptom, then giving a very small dose of the same substance, an active ingredient usually from a plant or mineral) may cure the illness by strengthening the body’s own response mechanisms.
Homeopathy was founded in the late 1700’s by Dr. Hanemann, a very well-known German doctor, and has been widely practiced throughout India, Europe, and many other countries. In the U.S., homeopathic remedies have been regulated since 1938 and are used to maintain health and to treat a wide range of conditions, often best treated in conjunction with acupuncture.
The word Reiki is composed of two Japanese words, ‘rei’ which means ‘a higher power’ and “ki” which means “life force energy. The practice of Reiki is a form of natural healing based on the belief that this “life force energy” flows through centers in the body called “chakras.” If the energy in these chakras is blocked or low, it can result in stress and illness. Reiki promotes stress reduction and relaxation to keep this energy flowing freely to improve the healing process, and to maintain good health and well-being overall.
Reiki is simple and safe, and is administered through the practitioner’s hands to help the natural healing process. The practice of Reiki can be used in conjunction with other natural healing methods as well as with traditional medical or therapeutic techniques to relieve side effects and promote recovery.
CHINESE HERBAL MEDICINE
Traditional Chinese herbal medicine is a powerful and sophisticated system of diagnoses and herbal treatment, based on thousands of years of trial and error. In ancient times, early human beings’ survival depended on knowing which plants were poisonous, which sustained life and energy, and which had healing properties.
This cumulative knowledge has been put into practice by organizing individual herbs and herbal formulations into categories that correspond with diagnostic patterns based on the principles of yin and yang, deficiency of qi, excessive heat or cold, and a number of other imbalances that affect organ function. Many of these conditions respond especially well to acupuncture with the addition of herbal remedies.
Detoxification is a body’s normal process of clearing toxins and other waste products from the body. Acupuncture, along with other natural healing methods, can help the body do the job of reducing toxins, reduce inflammation, and enhance functions of the liver and other organs involved in detoxification including kidneys, digestive system and the skin. Treatment can also help with symptoms of withdrawal from alcohol or drugs, smoking cessation, as well as symptoms of chemical sensitivities, environmental allergies, and much more.
